South Hedland Child and Parent Centre

Child and Parent Centres have been established in 16 communities throughout Western Australia. Located on public school sites, these family-friendly centres are open to all parents and carers. The Child and Parent Centre initiative is an early intervention initiative developed between the Department of Education, Department of Child Protection, Department of Health and the Department for Communities.

The Child and Parent Centre South Hedland initiative aims to provide early childhood support, services and programs to parents with children up to eight years old (including parents expecting children). Through the Child and Parent Centre at South Hedland Primary School, the YMCA engages the Hedland community in services that focus on the needs of children from birth to four years.

Services and programs presently running at and through the Child and Parent Centre are child health services, healthy eating workshops, early learning program, supported and universal and targeted daily playgroups, parenting information and support and referrals to other support services.

The Child and Parent Centre initiative represents a new way of doing things. Our aim is to work with local agencies and families to put into practice a ‘joined-up thinking’ that provides integrated services that increase health, well-being and school readiness for vulnerable young children and their families.

Triple P sessions: Free

Visiting specialists deliver these sessions at various dates throughout the school term. Sessions are advertised through the local schools and on social media.

Bookings essential. A range of different parent sessions, including behaviour / sleep and positive parenting.
